POINT BEING- get a choke of some kind- even if it's an "open" choke, it will throw more predictable, even, circular shot patterns over distance. This was my patrol shotgun for the remander of my time as a park ranger out in the boondocks. Also the smith installed some tritium ghost ring sights, making it useful in both day or night patrols. It was set up with what looks like an old Cutt's Compensator/adjustable choke welded permanently to the bbl, giving a total length of 19 inches. My last patrol shotgun, an 870, I installed a tube extention and had the bbl cut to 18 or 19 inches, so the bore was open an inch (at most) ahead of the tube. the choke can give you a good pattern- something you want for predictability. you could leave it no choke, or a gunsmith with proper tools can recut and set up a new choke. ![]()
